Ode to my Singer 201-2 (Episode 8)

I am so in love with my new (old) Singer 201-2. Check out my podcast on itunes with all the details: Episode 8 - Quilted Cupcake Podcast

The amount of space in the "harp" area is amazing! Diet Coke cans added for illustrative purposes - they are not included with your purchase of the Singer 201-2. :)

My trusty Kenmore for comparison - not even 1 Diet Coke will fit!

Here's the thread holder I added to make her even better:

And the $12 Goodwill Cabinet that I found for her:

The final exam - free motion quilting test - Passed with an A+

If you're in the market for a new machine, be sure to check out the
Sew Mama Sew blog and site - they're having Sewing Machine month in June!

I LOVE your new machine. How cool is that vintage Singer, and that it works. You got a great deal!

I have a fantastic Singer Featherweight machine which looks a lot like your 201. Now I'm intrigued by the 201 (mostly because of the large harp area), and I discovered one complete with wooden cabinet near my offered on Craigslist for only $50 (including the cabinet). I'm SO tempted to buy it, but know I'll need to use my husband's truck -- I doubt my husband will be on board, even for only $50. If it fit in my little car, I'd trek right on over and pick that puppy up!

By the way, I'm really enjoying both your blog and your podcast!

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your podcast -- especially your experiences with your new/old Singer. I have my Mom's old 15-91 and it's a workhorse! It's been in use since she got in the 50's. I can't wait to try free motion quilting with it.

Hi Quilted Cupcake! I was just doing a search to see if anyone had tried their 201 free motion quilting and found you and your link back to my 201 post! How funny.

Looks like my Bernina Sport blew out a bearing or something last night so I was trying to figure if my 201 could sub in. Glad to see you've had success!

Lovely post and blog!

Hi,
Any chance you could post a video or tutorial on how to do free-motion quilting with the Singer 201?

Hi, I have a 201K I struggle something awful to free motion on. I'm taking your success as a possibly maybe that I can do it to. How do you go about it?
