Books and Movies for Dog Lovers

I've recently seen two movies that I have to recommend for dog lovers like me.

The first is My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story, which if you subscribe to Netflix, you can view instantly for free (love that Netflix feature) .  Such a sweet tribute to doggies.  Features famous people talking about the impact of dogs on their lives.  Even if the people weren't famous, they say lovely and moving things about doggies that will make you think about your own relationship with your dog(s).

The second, which also has Richard Gere (never a bad thing), is Hachi: A Dog's Tale, also available via Netflix.

If you love dogs and haven't seen Hachi, you must add it to your queue.  It's sweet and charming, and will leave you with some sniffles.  Well worth it for this gem.

On the literary front, I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain: A Novel.  Also well worth your time.  I skimmed through some of the racing stuff, but still a good read.

Of course, Marley and Me (the book, less so the movie) remains a favorite.

Next on my list is Dog, Inc., about a woman who recently cloned her dog (true story).

Any other dog movies or books that you recommend?

  4. Mine! - a documentary about dogs saved during hurricane Katrina and the struggle between the families that adopt them and their original owners.

Milo & Otis - oldie but goodie.

And as far as books go, I highly recommend a book by Dr. Patricia McConnell called "The Other End of the Leash". It has some great stories in it and really explains human vs. doggie body language differences. I've recommended it to many of my clients when I was teaching dog training classes.
