I saw this idea for a Cupcake Liner Wreath on Pinterest, and I had to give it a try. I added a few twists to the project, so I created a quick tutorial. This style of wreath is great for birthday parties, or really any holiday or celebration. Mine's going to decorate my studio. If done in pink and blue, it could also work for a baby shower.
Many of the instructions I found recommended using hot glue to secure the liners. I chose to find another way - I didn't want burnt fingers, and wanted to be able to better shape the liners. I found that using T-head pins worked well - I had them in my stash, and was about to donate them to Goodwill as they didn't work for me.
See instructions and tutorial below. (Click on photos to see them larger.)
Materials:
Foam wreath form
Tissue paper or streamers
Approx 75 cupcake liners in colors of your choice
T-head pins
Ribbon for hanging
Step One:
Decide on your color scheme, and gather the appropriate colored cupcake liners. For my wreath, I used the colors of my studio, where it will hang. The possibilities are endless - orange and black for Halloween, Red for Valentine's Day, etc.
Step Two:
Keeping in mind your color scheme, cover the wreath with one of the colors you chose. I wanted to use streamers for this, but as I was doing this project late at night and didn't have streamers, I improvised with strips of paper cut from tissue paper, using masking tape to secure the ends. Either way, this step will help fill in any gaps that may occur when placing the liners.
Step Three:
Invert the liners, so the pretty side is facing you, and the interior is facing the back. Place a pin in the center, and squish and twist the liner to a ruffly shape. Then, just poke the pin in the wreath form. Continue all the way around, being sure to vary the liners if you have more than one color.
Step Four:
Before you finish covering the entire circle, tie a ribbon around the wreath where you can attach a longer ribbon or simply loop it over a hook.
That's it! Easy Peasy. I'm really pleased with this, and it only took about an hour to complete.
Please send me a picture if you end up making your own wreath - I'd love to see it! Feel free to Pin this, or share it on your blog. The world could always use more cupcake projects!
