Yum! Birthday Cake and Cake Treat Pops/ Push-Ups

As I believe you may already know, I love all things cake - cupcakes, birthday cakes, cupcake popsfrosting shots, you name it...I'm there.  This weekend, I used some yummy Betty Crocker cake mix and frosting to make some fun cake push-up pops.   I'd bought one of these treat pops at a local cupcake bakery, and couldn't wait to try my own.

They were fun and pretty easy to make. FYI, the plastic, reusable treat pop containers are by Wilton, and are now available at Joann.  After decorating, I put them in a big clear jar and used them as part of a display for my fabric banners

My advice if you make these treat pops  -- use a mini cupcake instead of cutting the cake circles from a bigger cake, as directed on the package.  I think they would have filled the space a bit more, and made for prettier edges.

Also, these take a lot of frosting - I used 1.5 containers of Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy frosting for 12 treat pops.   I put the frosting in a piping bag to make decorating easier.  Cleaning up after the pops were all done was surprisingly easy - I soaked everything in soapy water, and then rinsed them.

Here's another cupcake idea that I wish I knew about sooner - an easy method to make cupcakes in ice cream cones.  SO much easier than trying to cook the cake in a filled cone.  I've tried that twice, didn't work either time.  Check out this infographic for instructions:
