I finally figured out how to use my craft show money -- she's red, sleek and fast....
I've been wanting one of these for ages (my BFF Martha loves hers!). I could just never bring myself to plunk down the dough :) Yesterday, I took the plunge. I did lots of research, and found the best price I could - $300 for the Artisan model. I really wanted red, to match my kitchen. I couldn't deal with another white or black appliance. Especially since this baby's going to be sitting out all the time.
We made a batch of cookies last night to test it - yummy! Today, I'm making pizza dough. Next, I'll try bread. We have a Cub Scout cake auction this weekend, so I'll really be putting it through its paces.
Anyone have great recipes or tips for using the Kitchenaid? Please let me know. I don't want this Ferrari to just sit in the garage....
Working on a new podcast, will post it this weekend.

I am so jealous! I have always wanted one of these! Don't have one for the same reasons you put off buying one for so long. Enjoy! Stephanie in Michigan
oh man, my 13 year old & I have been wanting one of these! A red one too.... man oh man you lucky duck!
oh how wonderful! i have always wanted a Kitchenaid!! they have so many cool attatchments as well!!
what a fantastic use of your craft show money!! :)
I have just the thing to make in your new 'toy'! On Olympic coverage today the Fairmount Whistler Hotel was giving out free cupcakes with Red mittens just like the iconic red mitts with maple leaves every one is wearing. So cute. maybe you can find a picture and make some...BTW I'm Canadian.
Hurray for you! Every one who in enjoys baking should have a Kitchen Aid in their home. I have had mine for many years and it is use frequently. My son and daughter-in-law receive a charcoal colored one as a wedding gift. They use it for making pasta, shreddng cheese and making bread.
Go to dianasdesserts.com. Diana has a wealth of recipes that are great. Don't worry about your mixer standing still, you'll find numerous uses for it.
looks lovely Jean. Use it with good humour, good health, good spirits and good food. My Kenwood chef is still going strong after 28 years. I don't have hopes for another one as my husband is great at fixing things. His mum had an identical one to mine but didn't use it much... she kept using the Sunbeam one she got early on in her marriage which my husband kept fixing for her. What hope do I have?
You are gonna love it!!!! Woohoo! I leave mine out all the time too. It's great for mixing salad dressings, heavy doughs, fluffy icing, whipped cream. I love that I can walk away from it and do something else when it's working. It's a great investment. It will still be working when you have grandkids.
You made a wise investment! You'll have it forever if you take care of it. Don't use a recipe that has more than 6 cups of flour in it or it wil be too much for the engine to handle. Have fun!
On another note- I've been listening to your podcast at night when I cannot sleep and really enjoy it! You don't look anything like my mind had pictured LOL. Hubby is from Baltimore & we used to live in Severna Park so it's also nice to hear about your excursions ;)
I'm in love with you! I have had my eye on that same model....only in black. I'll have to pry the money out of my husbands cold dead hands before I ever get one...LOL!
You will have that baby FOREVER, Jean! I got mine about ten years ago and use it constantly. I don't even use my handheld mixer unless I have something that requires mixing while cooking on the stove. Do you all like an apple-y kind of cake with cream cheese frosting? I'll give you the recipe, if you'd like. It's not the JAC, but made with babyfood (of all things) and is SUPER moist and delish!
Oh, and with this purchase, we now have another nickname to add to the list. You've transformed yourself from Jean-Jean-The-Scrappin'-Machine to Jean-Jean-The-Quilting-Machine and now you are MixMaster Jean. You're just like Madonna (without the pointy boobies), always reinventing yourself! ;-)
I have had mine for a gazillion years and it's still going as strong as it was the day I got it from my dear mother in law as a newlywed. I got one for my oldest daughter when she got married and will get one for my other one when she ties the knot (hopefully this year!). They don't come cheap but last forever and making baking so much easier. My best advice would be to leave it out...or you won't want to drag it out. The only attachment I have is the shredder and I use it all the time for cheese...good choice to spend your money on something that will bring you and your family much happiness!
Congratulations! When my boys were little, I would make the pizza dough recipe in the Kitchen Aid book (added some herbs and a little grated parmesan) ... cut up different ingredients and the boys would get to make their own personal pizza with their choice of ingredients ... they loved that night! birdie chef
