Turns out that it's not easy to take pictures of my duvet cover. First, have to be sure nobody's under it (or on it- see below). Second, have to have the right light. Third, have to remember to bring camera to bedroom (not something I do on a regular basis!;) I'm very happy with how this project turned out.
To make it, I cut 12.5 inch squares from my favorite (triple-washed!) vintage sheets, and sewed them together. No quilting at all. I used a plain white sheet as the backing, and it's more or less a huge pillowcase. I did go back and reinforce the seams between the blocks with zig zag stitch, as this will be laundered quite a lot, and I don't want it to unravel.
And, of course, whenever I layout a quilt for pinning, or a finished project for photos, Dusty thinks it must have been created just for him. It's funny - my childhood dog, Gidget, did the same thing to my mom when she layed a quilt out. Do all dogs do this?
ETA: I'm now offering vintage sheet fat quarters in my Etsy shop, if you'd like to do a similar project (dog not included :)

what a darling duvet. Makes me want to climb up there with the dog and cuddle.
That came out great Jean! It's so springy :) My dogs do the same thing LOL.
Those colors are lovely, just what a person longs for this time of year. Its great that you've been able to repurpose these.
Great idea for a lightweight and pretty duvet! My dogs always run out on top of my blocks when I am laying them out to! What is up with that?! Nice job! Stephanie in Michigan
Jean,
I LOVE the duvet cover! Now I want to start looking for those vintage sheets. I also love your podcasts - they are so inspirational and full of great ideas. June in FL
I don't have trouble with the dogs as our two are mainly outside animals... but cats. It isn't just quilts... its whatever I am doing. They like to be there, on the lap, on the quilt, on the keyboard. 4 of us will be sitting watching tv. I will be the only one doing something.... and it will be my lap that they have to sit

Love the vintage sheet idea. I really enjoy your podcast. We seem to have a lot of the same interests. I am going to try looking for great things in thrift shops. I LOVE a bargin!
Well that came out just darling! And I think Dusty is completely justified in assuming it's his.
