Here's my weekend project - from Kaffe Fasset Book "Quilts in the Sun
" -- it's called the Forget-me-not Log Cabin. So easy to create. Once you have your variety of strips cut, you trim everything with scissors. I love the wonkiness - the book calls it a "whimsical" design, and I'd have to agree. I so enjoyed using only solid colors. I can definitely see more solids working their way into future projects.
Question for all of you - what do you think of the multi-colored quilting? I was very torn about which thread to use here. Would cream or gray have looked better? I wasn't sure how to choose, with so many colors, so I chose all colors.

Jean, I think your quilt looks great. I cannot really see all the colors in the quilting thread from the photo, but I think multicolored quilting would make sense on this quilt, given the colorfulness and the "whimsiness." Well done!
The quilting looks great, but I agree with Stephanie that you can't see the multi-color thread in the photo, even when you click on a close up.
I'm sure it's great - makes way more sense than grey or beige. The only other choice I might have considered is black, but that might be too much.
Gorgeous log cabins! Love this quilt.
This is a cute quilt! I am currently machine-quilting a small wallhanging that I made using only solids, and I am matching the thread to the fabric in each area. Take a look at the book Liberated Quiltmaking II by Gwen Marston to see what I mean. I started this project in a workshop I took with her in Feb. I'm enjoying working in a more liberated, intuitive style :-)

I don't think either would look better - just different. Using a solid color might have given the quilt a more "traditional" look, but personally, I love multi-colored quilting thread.
Those vibrant colors are magnificent.
I guess I'm different from everyone else. I have used multicolored thread and it always bugged me that the colors showed up on the "wrong" colored patches. Maybe it's because I don't like the quilting to be the star of the show. But your quilt is very cool!
I love multicolored thread. My last quilt had multicolored pastel on a pastel/ white quilt. Can't see the detail on yours, but I love multi colors.
