I found this happy chicken at a thrift shop for $1.50, so I had to bring it home. I love the mushroom fabric and I thought I might be able to use it as a template. The big question is - what is it? I think it is some sort of cozy, but not sure for what object. The wings lift up on both sides. Any thoughts?

I'm going to guess that it goes over a bread basket - the body of the chicken keeps the rolls/bread warm, but you can easily get one out through the hole under the wing.
Pam's guess is a good one. I had no clue. Her guess makes sense. I think it's a great idea if that's what it is!
Bread basket cover. My mom used to have one in the 80's.
Looks to me like a bun warmer :-)
A relative had one. Yes, it is a bun warmer. A basket goes in the bottom and you grab a warm bread roll from under the wing.
I made a few of these, yes, you put it on a simple oval basket, and it kept your biscuits warm. My MIL used it as a centerpiece for years, and kept pens and pencils in it for her work. I forgot it was for rolls, because I saw it used this way for so long!
I stared and stared at the photo, unable to figure out what in the world it was! Glad the clever commenters solved the mystery -- a bun/biscuit warmer makes perfect sense. Regardless, it'd always bring a smile! :-)
