A New (to me) Quilt As You Go Technique

Here's the lap quilt / wall hanging I made using the new (to me) quilt as you go technique I discovered via Pinterest.  I followed these instructions by Penny at SewTakeAHike blog.  Penny, I think you've changed my quilting life!

I talk all about it on Podcast Episode 53.  I love all the detailed quilting you can do with this technique.

Even remembered to use some fun vintage-looking fabric on the back.

Has anyone else tried this technique?  Please let me know in the comments how it's worked for you.

I love the pretty, bright colors you've used. I've tried similar techniques and I don't know why I don't use it more often!

Jean, this is beautiful! The only issue I have with this particular QAYG technique is that the backing isn't quilted.. just ditched. You know what I mean?

I have a log cabin quilt in a weekend book I bought years ago but never tried it. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have tried a couple of quilt as you go methods, once with the same concept as yours. I am still on the fence about them. I don't know if they save you time, just the hassle of managing a large quilt under a small harp. Jackie
